Open Society Civil Society Scholar Awards (CSSA) for Faculty Members and PhD Students

Open Society Civil Society Scholar Awards (CSSA) are currently open. Faculty members and doctoral students from certain developing countries are welcome to apply. The successful applicants will spend two to ten months doing research or other professional activities. They will be given award valued up to $15,000. Please submit your application before the deadline which is February 15, 2016.

Scholarship Description
The Civil Society Scholar Awards (CSSA) support international academic mobility to enable doctoral students and university faculty to access resources that enrich socially engaged research and critical scholarship in their home country or region. The awards support activities such as fieldwork (data collection); research visits to libraries, archives, or universities; course/curriculum development; and international collaborations leading to a peer-reviewed publication. Civil Society Scholars are selected on the basis of their outstanding contributions to research or other engagement with local communities, to furthering debates on challenging societal questions, and to strengthening critical scholarship and academic networks within their fields.

Scholarship Value
Each of the winners of this award may expect to receive $10,000 for doctoral students; $15,000 for faculty members.

Level and Area of Studies
Research program and other professional projects in the field of social sciences such as law, justice, and governance; sustainable development and natural resource management; economic rights and empowerment of the poor; public health, social work and community development; new media law and policy; inclusive education; post-conflict studies; and human rights.

Place of Study
The project can be taken in home country of the candidates.

Eligibility and Criteria
Doctoral students of eligible fields studying at accredited universities inside or outside of their home country. Full-time faculty members teaching at universities in their home country. Please note only those meet the citizenship requirements will considered to receive this scholarship.
