Elaine Geering Scholarship in English Literature in New Zealand

Each year, the Elaine Geering Scholarship in English Literature accepts applications for the Elaine Geering Scholarship. This program is open to New Zealand citizens and permanent residents who wish to undertake Honours, Masters or PhD studies at Victoria University or at an approved overseas institution (for students who have completed their undergraduate studies at Victoria University).

Scholarship Description
This Scholarship has been established by Lloyd Geering in memory of his wife Elaine Geering. Elaine, who was undertaking a PhD in English Literature at Victoria up until the time of her death in 2001, was particularly interested in Old English and Medieval Literature.

Award Value
The value of the Scholarship will be approximately $2,000.

Level and Area of Studies
Honours, Masters or PhD in English literature.

Place of Study
The study will be taken in New Zealand.

Eligibility and Criteria

  • Students undertaking Honours, Masters or PhD studies in Medieval, Old English, or New Zealand literature at Victoria University, including students transferring from other universities; or
  • Students who have completed their undergraduate studies at Victoria University and are enrolled in postgraduate study of Medieval, Old English, or New Zealand literature at an approved overseas institution.

Applicants’ Nationality
Only New Zealand citizens or permanent residents are welcome to apply.

Submission Deadline
15 May every year.
