The University of Cardiff is currently accepting applications for the Ph.D Studentship. This will support students undertaking Doctoral Program majoring in Engineering: Optimisation for novel material for additive manufacturing. Both domestic and foreign students are welcome to apply. The winning candidate will receive approximately £14,057 p.a. To apply, entries must be received no later than 25 September 2015.
This PhD project will develop a numerical method for tailoring material properties. The material properties may be metamaterial (i.e. material that does not exist in nature such as cloaking material or negative stiffness material) or smart material (i.e. morphs or changes shapes as a result of external stimulus). They can be achieved by optimizing the shape of a periodic material structure and making the material using additive manufacturing techniques.
Value and Tenure
The successful applicant will receive benefit of award consists of full UK/EU tuition fees, as well as a Doctoral Stipend matching UK Research Council National Minimum (£14,057 p.a. for 2015/16, updated each year). This will be tenable for three years.
Level and Area of Studies
