Ernst Mach Research Grants in Austria

Applications for the Ernst Mach Research Grants Program are now being invited. Students from all over the world are welcome to apply. They must be maximum 35 years of age at the time of application. All entries must be received by 1 March 2018.

Program Description
The Ernst Mach Grants are named after the famous Austrian physicist and philosopher Ernst Mach (1838-1916). The grant program is financed by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy (BMWFW). Students and young researchers from foreign universities are invited to apply for this grant to come to Austria for a research or a study stay. Every year a board of representatives of the Austrian Ministry awards the Ernst Mach Grants based on the results of an expert examination procedure. Age limit for this grant program is 35 years at the time of the application.

  • Accommodation, health insurance
  • Scholarship holders are exempted from paying tuition fees.
  • Scholarship holders from non-European developing countries will also receive a travel costs subsidy of max. 1.000 EUR.

Eligibility and Criteria

  • Maximum age: 35 years (born on or after Oct. 1st, 1982).
  • Language skill s: Very good knowledge of English and/or German
  • The scholarship will only be granted for projects that can be completed within the scholarship period (max. 9 months).

Applicants’ Nationality
There is no citizenship requirement.
