The Estonian Institute is delighted to invite applications for the Estophilus Scholarship. Eligible candidates should be currently do research on Estonia-related topic or gather material for it. Those are selected will receive benefit of €500/month for maximum five months. To apply, the application packet must be received no later than March and October each year.

Scholarship Description
The objective of the scholarship Estophilus is to fund research and studies conducted in Estonia by academically advanced students interested in Estonian language and culture. The scholarship is granted by the Council of Academic Studies of Estonian Language and Culture Abroad, involving experts when necessary. The scholarship is financed by the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research and administered by the Estonian Institute.

Value and Tenure
Each of the scholarship winners will receive up to €2,500. This award is tenable two to five months.

Master or Ph.D research in Estonia-related topic.

Eligibility and Criteria
Eligible applications are those presented by holders of a doctoral degree or Master’s or Doctoral students who are citizens of a foreign state and are studying at a university abroad, to write a research paper on an Estonia-related topic or to gather material for it. Knowledge of Estonian is an advantage but not a requirement.

All nationalities except Estonian are eligible to apply this Estophilus Scholarship.

Application Instruction
Application packet must be consisting the materials as follow:

  • The completed application form
  • CV
  • Certificate confirming the applicant’s status as a postgraduate student or a copy of a document confirming his or her PhD degree
  • Plan of research (max two A4 pages)
  • Written confirmation from an Estonian research or development institution to receive the applicant
  • For postgraduate students a recommendation from their research supervisor

Submission Deadline
March and October on annual basis.
