The J. Gonda Foundation is glad to invite applications for the Gonda PhD Student Grant. This program is exclusively open to the Netherlands students who want to undertake PhD programme at Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences. To apply, entries must be received no later than April 1 and October 1 of every year.

Program Description
Since 1992, the Foundation has funded projects, fellowships and scholarly publications and re-issues of existing works. It also organises and publishes the annual Gonda Lecture. The Foundation’s assets consist of the estate of Indologist Jan Gonda, who was a member of the Academy.

Award Value
A Gonda PhD student grant is usually between € 3000 and € 10,000. The grant cannot be used to cover salaries.

Level and Area of Studies
PhD program in the fields of Sanskrit, other Indian languages and literature, and Indian cultural history.

Place of Study
At the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences in the Netherlands.

Eligibility and Criteria

Application Instruction
The application consists of an application form that must be submitted by e-mail to the Board of the Gonda Foundation.

Submission Deadline
April 1 and October 1 of every year.
