The Department of Chemical Engineering at University College London (UCL) is currently accepting applications for the Hugh Walter Stern PhD Studentship. Students are expected to participate in a PhD program in the area of Chemical Engineering. Both domestic and overseas students are welcome to apply. The successful candidate is expected to start in October 2017.

Scholarship Description
The Department of Chemical Engineering at University College London (UCL) is glad to offer a PhD studentship in chemical engineering for the year 2017. UK/EU/Overseas applicants are eligible to apply for this studentship programme. The scheme aims to provide one new research student per year with the exceptional opportunity to work within their chosen research field to undertake a PhD programme at a world-class research institution.

Eligibility and Criteria

  • Applicants should be confident that they are able to demonstrate outstanding academic performance before applying for this scholarship scheme. Applications should be supported by aCV, a personal statement specifying you are applying for the Stern Scholarship and which research subject you are interested in (approx. 1000 words and a maximum of 2 pages), and three recommendation letters and must be submitted via the UCL PRiSM portal.
  • The successful candidate will receive written confirmation of their scholarship. Any offer of a PhD place will be conditional on a final interview by the Department and – if applicable – on the candidate receiving the required qualifications.
  • The candidate will have or be expected to obtain a First Class Honours degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, physics or an associated discipline. The ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment that tackles questions across various fields of Chemical Engineering is expected. Effective written and verbal communication skills, good time-management, excellent attention to detail and the ability to work in a team are essential.
