Petro Jacyk Visiting Scholars Program in Canada

The University of Toronto in Canada is delighted to invite international scholars to apply the Petro Jacyk Visiting Scholars Program for 2016/2017 academic year. Preference will be given to the candidates whose work relates to its thematic focus “Challenges of Independent Ukraine.” The selected scholars will spend maximum six weeks in Toronto conducting research and interacting with Canadian scholars. Program Description
Scholars studying Ukraine outside of Canada are invited to apply for appointments as a Petro Jacyk Visiting Scholar at the University of Toronto. As a rule, the appointees spend four to six weeks in Toronto conducting research and interacting with Canadian scholars (longer stays can be arranged). Most of them also present a seminar on their work and are expected to take part in relevant scholarly events. As a rule, visits are scheduled during the fall and winter sessions of the university, that is between September and April.

Award Value
The winners of this Petro Jacyk Visiting Scholars Program may expect to receive the following benefits:

  • round-trip airfare (lowest economy fare) to
    the maximum of CAD$1,200;
  • visa costs if applicable;
  • medical insurance for the approved stay at the University of Toronto; and
  • allowance calculated at a rate of CAD $55/full day to the maximum of CAD$1,540.

Level and Area of Studies
Research program in the area that related to its thematic focus “Challenges of Independent Ukraine.” This focus includes state- and institution- building in Ukraine; law and governance; problems of democratization; education, culture and identity of the nation and ethnic groups in Ukraine; history and the imperial past; and foreign policy and international relations.

Eligibility and Criteria
Petro Jacyk Visiting Scholar positions are open to scholars at all stages of their careers working in the social sciences and humanities.
