PhD Studentship for Studying Tissue Engineering at Cardiff University

Applicants are now invited to apply a PhD Studentship within the School of Dentistry of Cardiff University. This award available for either U.K or EU students. To be eligible, he or she must have an excellent grade at the previous degree. The selected applicant will receive full UK/EU tuition fees plus other interesting benefits. Program Description
The School of Dentistry invites applications for a PhD Student to join a multi-disciplinary research team, funded by the Norwegian Research Council, to investigate the therapeutic
potential of tailored oligosaccharides. The aim of this PhD project is to exploit the ability of alginate oligomers to potentiate antibiotic treatment, impede bacterial adherence and biofilm development, and act as a mucolytic, by employing them as stimuli-responsive carriers of toxic, water-insoluble or otherwise undeliverable drugs. This studentship will develop bi-functional tailored drug delivery systems from alginate to explore the feasibility of engineering novel nanomedicines.

One best applicants will be granted the benefits as follow: full UK/EU tuition fees, as well as a Doctoral Stipend matching UK Research Council National Minimum (£14,057 p.a. for 2015/16, updated each year).

Eligibility and Criteria
To be eligible, all candidates must meet the residency requirement and academic criteria. The candidates should be UK and EU students at least 3 years prior to the start of the course. In addition, Applicants should have 2:1 or 1st Class Honours Degree (or demonstrate excellence during previous degrees) in Pharmacy, Biological or Biomedical Science subject area. Favourable consideration will be given to applicants with (or expect to obtain) a relevant Masters degree and /or those applicants able to demonstrate some research experience.
