Each year, the Academy accepts applications for the Student Academy Awards. Both U. S. and foreign nationals are welcome to apply. All applicants are required to make variety of films. The following deadline is 1 June 2020.
Established in 1972, the Student Academy Awards supports and encourages filmmaking at the college level. The 2020 Student Academy Awards (SAA) recognizes and honors student filmmakers who demonstrate excellence in the creation of motion pictures. By awarding these outstanding achievements, the Academy strives to support and inspire emerging filmmakers and to foster growth and education in the art and science of motion pictures.
Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medal Awards (which include cash grants of $5000, $3000 and $2000, respectively, and a trip to Los Angeles for SAA Week) are awarded by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in recognition of outstanding achievements in student filmmaking.

Eligibility and Requirement
- For the domestic competition, the student filmmaker must be enrolled as a college student, either full-time or part-time, within one year of entering the competition. The college or university must be degree-granting program at a U.S. college or university recognized by the SAA Executive Committee.
